It's February, which means Valentine's Day is coming up, and we have a special episode just for those of you who are looking for a spouse.

Today, Dr. David K. Bernard is going to talk about what apostolic singles should look for in a spouse.

Dr. Bernard, as always, it is a pleasure to have you with us today.

Now, you have adult children who are all married.

You've been a pastor.

So you've been in the position of giving advice, I'm sure, to your kids, to singles

in the church about what they should look for in a spouse. So we want to ask you today,

for all of our audience members out there who are single, who are looking for that special

someone, their Valentine's Day is coming up, they're thinking about that right now. What advice do you have for them, for what they should be looking for that special someone. They're Valentine's Day's coming up. They're thinking about that right now.

What advice do you have for them for what they should be looking for in a spouse?

Well, let me talk about God's plan for marriage.

So if you go back to the beginning before sin, you see God's original plan.

In Genesis, chapter 1, chapter 2, God created a man and a woman, and he said that they would leave

their birth families, they would join to one another, and they would become one flesh.

And one flesh, I think, means physical, mental, emotional, spiritual.

So they're to consider themselves as one family unit and their

interests are intertwined. When the Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 5 about the marriage relationship

and went back to Genesis, he talked about the husband loving his wife sacrificially,

as he would love himself and cherish and treat her the same,

whereas obviously there's the implication that she would reciprocate that.

So I think when we go to look at what marriage, you know, what we're looking for in a spouse,
