0:12.1	In 2022, the film Babylon was released and it follows
0:17.6	the story of one man's rise through Hollywood's ranks. Many people have speculated that the film's name in some ways is a critique on
0:26.3	Hollywood as a place where confusion and sin run rampant and they make those
0:31.9	speculations because the city of Babylon has long been used as a symbol for those fairy things.
0:39.0	You see, all the way back in Genesis 11, we meet the city of Babylon.
0:44.0	It's a city in which all the people of the world come together
0:47.8	to build the Tower of Babel.
0:49.8	Their efforts to build this tower wasn't just to make a cool building to reach the sky,
0:54.8	but to build a new kind of city, a new world where they don't need God.
1:00.8	The building of this tower was a direct rebellion against the rule and reign of God.
1:06.4	They wanted to be like him, to unite heaven and earth by their own power.
1:11.6	And it's because of this that God sends them into confusion,
1:15.4	jumbling their language to end their efforts and save them from themselves.
1:20.5	But, as we learned throughout scripture, humans never stop rebelling against God.
1:25.2	Specifically, the nation of Babylon is a specific place, but it is also used as a
1:32.1	symbol of those that are in rebellion against God.
1:35.6	Babylon is the enemy of God's people. It is Babylon that eventually conquers the
1:40.0	nation of Israel and brings them into exile.
1:43.0	Babylon is powerful.
1:44.5	It is godless, and it seemingly cannot be defeated.
