What's the stupidest thing you've ever witnessed one of your new hires do?

After more weeks of training than should have been necessary, charts, books, and explicit instructions,

he ruined a $10,000 piece of equipment because he didn't load it correctly, because it, quote,

took too much time. It was an industrial centrifuge. Basically, you have to try really hard

to not balance it. You have to load everything on one side to blow the motor. He blew the motor.

He wasn't fired then and there. He was fired about 10 minutes later when I sent him to the

boardroom to review the materials while I set up the replacement,

and I found him in the CEO's office watching adult content online. I walked in on it.

Unless centrifuge instruction manuals involve a giant wang defiling a screaming woman, he was not

doing as instructed. Also, he wasn't browsing incognito, so when I checked the browser

history later, the very clearly named website was there, clear as day. I did have to explain

to my boss what it was, and that was a little awkward. I didn't actually have the power

to fire him, but I was so livid the words just flowed out of my mouth. Sounds like he was either a moron or he

was trying to get fired. Either way, the hiring manager needs to be looked at. I worked at a

convenience store and often fell into the role of supervisor or manager. My boss was on holiday when

the following happened. We had a fellow working one night when a customer

brought in a $5,000 winning lotto ticket. First mistake, and completely against policy,

the employee opened the safe and just paid it. Nobody should know you can open the safe,

especially when we worked alone at night. That should have been referred to the Lotto Corp to pay

directly, or the owner could

write a check. Second and worst mistake, there's little bits of paper you have to submit

to the Lotto folks when you pay a ticket, so your store gets the money paid back, minus
