Welcome to Back from the Abyss. I'm Dr. Craig Hecock. First, a quick announcement.

The psychedelic practitioner immersive training filled quickly, so we've added another.

And this will be May 3rd through 7th, also in Lyons, Colorado, just north of Boulder.

I'll be co-facilitating there.

It should be a really great training with two ketamine experientials and lots of shared wisdom.

Second, I learned a cool new medical word this week, and I realized that I, in fact, have this

neurological issue. The word is Afantasia, APH-A-N-T-A-S-I-A. And it means the inability to visualize.

About 3% of the population has it.

And when those of us with Afantasia close our eyes, and we try to imagine a sunset or our

child's face, or the details of our bedroom, we see basically nothing, a greeny, dark, obscured nothingness.

The movie screen of our brain is grayed out and basically useless.

And this has been a huge revelation for me and explains so much, like, why, for example,

I've never been able to visualize how things

fit together, especially three-dimensionally. I can't really remember faces or places in any

detail until I actually see them and re-experience them. I do have visual memories, sort of,

but they're more contextual, narrative, auditory, somatic, but not really visual.

And who knew that most people can actually pull up vivid, fully formed images of people and

places and things?

Wow!

I always thought that when people said they could do this, they were exaggerating, that they

were speaking more in metaphor, not actual fact.
