Summary

Today, Todd is joined by Timothy Winterstein, pastor and author of the new book, Worshiped & Glorified: A Study of the Nicene Creed. Celebrating its 1700th anniversary this year, the summary of Christian faith known as the Nicene Creed has been a fixture in the church for centuries and is still recited in worship to this day. Todd and Timothy explore the significance of creeds in the Christian faith, their role in binding us to Scripture, and the historical context surrounding the development of the Nicene Creed. The Nicene Creed is a particular way of telling that scriptural story that binds us to the Scriptures. – Timothy Winterstein Timothy shares insights from his book, emphasizing how the creed shapes our worship and understanding of God, as well as what it means to confess faith in Him together at a deeper level. We are pleased to award three listeners a copy of Timothy Winterstein's book, Worshiped & Glorified: A Study of the Nicene Creed, courtesy of Concordia Publishing House. Congratulations to Marty P. from Sanford, NC, Steve O. from Midlothian, VA, and Micah B. from Oakland, ME.    Show Notes: Check out Timothy’s podcast which he co-hosts with his brother, Jay: https://www.saintsandcinema.com/

Welcome to Mortification of Spin, a casual conversation about things that count with Carl Truman and Todd Pruitt, a podcast of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals.

0:29.2

Let's join this week's conversation.

0:31.6

Thank you. Well, you are listening to Mortification of Spin.

0:53.3

My name is Todd Pruitt. I'm the pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

0:58.9

And typically, I am joined by my good friend and co-host Carl Truman of Grove City College.

1:05.5

But Carl cannot be with us today. And so it is just me along with a special guest that we have. And our guest

1:13.2

is Timothy Wintersstein, who is a Lutheran pastor. We like Lutherans at Mortification of

1:22.6

Spin. One of the things we like about good conservative confessional Lutherans is that they tend to not be preoccupied

1:31.3

with always having to transform the culture. They actually seem to think that the Ministry of Word

1:36.2

and Sacrament are matters of world-changing significance. And so our Lutheran brothers are good at reminding us PCA folks like myself

1:48.2

about the centrality and the world-changing nature of the ordinary means of grace that God has

1:57.2

given us. And our guest is one of our Lutheran brothers. And the reason why we're

2:06.6

having him on is because he is the author of a new book on the Nicene Creed. And of course,

2:22.0

one of the things you may be hearing a lot about the Nicene Creed. And, of course, one of the things you may be hearing a lot about the Nicene Creed these days is because we are at the 1700-year anniversary of the Nicene – I think it's 1700 years.

2:34.1

Is that right, Timothy? That's correct. Yes. Yeah.

2:38.5

And your new book is called Worshipped and Glorified, a study of the Nicene Creed. Thanks, Timothy,

2:46.4

for being on with us today at Morification to spin. Thanks for having me.

2:51.6

I appreciate it.

2:53.2

So a lot of good stuff being produced these days on the Nicene Creed for which we are

2:57.0

grateful because the Nicene Creed just happens to be really important.

3:01.8

And every once in a while, every few years, it seems, were reminded in fresh ways

3:06.8

because of something really goofy, a prominent
