0:00.0	A liberal democracy is always going to have goals.
0:02.0	It's always going to have these kind of political tribes
0:04.8	or religious tribes or whatever.
0:06.1	And the thing that makes a liberal democracy special
0:08.8	isn't that it gets rid of these.
0:11.0	It's that it has an immune system to keep them from taking over.
0:16.4	And what's happened, I think, in the last decade,
0:19.6	a few decades, but especially in most recent decades,
0:22.7	maybe due to social media and a few other things,
0:25.6	people have gotten to very, very scared of these goals.
0:28.5	They become scarier, you know?
0:30.6	And that has turned into the people stopping
0:35.2	standing up for liberal values and going quiet.
0:39.1	And that's the immune system failing.
0:41.2	That's, you know, when you scale up, a bunch of scared
0:44.1	individuals, you get a mass scale, you get this immune system
0:47.6	failing, and these golems kind of like Godzilla
0:50.0	trampling through society in a way that they really couldn't
0:53.6	do in the older days.
0:54.8	You know, this is pretty new.
