Just as there are stages of grief, there are stages of war, and Israel isn't an early

one.

Israel is still reeling from the trauma of the attack, October 7th.

That manifests in a number of ways, and one is that there's a certain amount of Israeli

policy that is driven right now by wrath.

A combination of anger, fear, mourning, and revenge, which given the circumstances, seems

like a dangerous place to be.

As Biden was on his way to Israel, I spoke with Graham Wood, an Atlantic staff writer who's

been reporting in the Middle East in recent months.

We reached him in Jerusalem on Tuesday.

Graham, you have landed in Israel.

Can you just talk about some of the things that you've seen and encountered this week?

Well, I actually landed in Jordan, so the first thing that I noticed was it was difficult

to get to Israel.

There were so many rockets that were coming out of Gaza that airlines understandably pulled
