Summary

I still can’t exactly explain what happened with the 2024 election, but it does appear as if Trump and his dangerous, extremist allies have won. I’m a big believer in our institutions, but I also spent the past week trying to figure out how they could have all failed us so badly. I understand the sentiment to want to disengage. To find someone to blame. To point fingers and to close the door on working with anyone who isn’t in your immediate group, because you feel as if they’re the only people you can trust. But this idea that organization and community and goodness can’t stand up to any of this is fundamentally untrue. In many ways, America as we knew it might be over, but the ideas of democracy, human rights, civil rights, and knowing right from wrong, are not over, and if we want any sort of future, we can’t lay down now. That is exactly what these wanna-be authoritarians want us to do. And as far as I’m concerned, they don’t get anything they want. The mainstream media has let us down, so we need to support those doing independent work. The extremists have been able to shape the mindset of a fair amount of this nation because the far right invested in their voices. Give people like me a chance to fight back. 1:35.4	The final electoral count, as we record this episode, is 226 votes for Harris, with the Democratic ticket winning the electoral votes of the Western Seaboard of Washington, Oregon, and California,
1:40.7	the northeastern seaboard of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia, along with New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois, and Hawaii.
1:54.3	And Donald Trump taking all of the other states, including winning the popular vote, the first Republican to do that in 20 years, and every single swing state.
