it's really expensive to buy a home in the Seattle area, but the amount of money you need to get in the door in this market is probably more than you imagined.

Even renters who earn a good living are feeling the squeeze.

Seattle Times reporter Heidi Groover is here to explain, but first, let's get you caught up.

The Seattle City Council Committee charged with shaping the 2024 transportation levy will meet this morning.

As it stands, the proposed $1.5 billion levy is the most expensive in the city's history.

If things go smoothly, the committee could vote on amendments and then the entire package.

If not, the deadline to finalize the levy for November's ballot is July 9th.

Temperatures have been on the cooler side, but brace yourself. The National Weather Service says

things will really warm up midweek. We could be into the 80s by Friday. The heat can be dangerous, so take

steps to protect yourself. Stay hydrated and stay inside if you can. And remember, the water is still

really cold. And don't let the charge run too low on your electric vehicle if you're out and about.

Geekwire reports that over the last year, at least

a hundred EV charging cables have been stolen across the city. Turns out Seattle is a hotspot

for this kind of theft. The draw is the copper, which is valuable scrap. The thefts are

especially vexing for drivers who don't have a home charging setup.
