This may not be what you were thinking about over Mother's Day weekend, but as we sit here on May 11th,

there is no New York State

budget for the fiscal year that began when, all the way back on April 1st. So let's take stock

of what's in, because some things are in that are very consequential, what's out, and what's

still being debated as of this morning. Some big things appear to be in,

including a piettaire tax of a certain kind as the version of taxing the rich that Governor

Hockel and Mayor Mabdani could agree on. There's an interesting point of uncertainty about how that

would be evaluated and applied. We'll talk about that. Also, a provision to cooperate

less with ice. This hasn't gotten so much notice, but it was certainly noticed by border

czar Tom Holman, who basically told New York, you do that, it's going to backfire. Listen.

What's going to happen in places like New York, and people want to pass this ridiculous legislation not to work with us, we're going to flood the zone.
