Last night, the House of Representatives voted to end the government

shutdown after 43 days. This, after eight Democrats in the Senate, split from the party and voted

with Republicans to do the same.

where the odds were 99% that the government will reopen.

First, let's look at the shutdown and why it's finally ending. Once the shutdown began, courtesy of my senior senator here in New York, Chuck the Undertaker Schumer, the Senate needed 60 votes to reopen, 52 Republicans and no Democrats at first.
