Hello everyone and welcome to police off the cuff, real crime stories. I'm your host,

retired NYPD Sergeant Bill Cannon, a 27-year veteran of the NYPD.

Folks, we have a breaking news story.

And you see this man on the screen.

Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, was gunned down on a New York City

Street in front of the Hilton Hotel between 53rd and 54th Street

on what tourists know as Avenue Americas, as us New Yorkers know, as 6th Avenue.

This occurred at 6.44 a.m. this morning. And he was raced to a hospital where he was pronounced

dead at 0.7.12. 7.12.m. He was shot numerous times. We'll go into more of the details as

the broadcast continues. But he was shot or hit at least two times, once in the

back and once in the leg. That wound he sustained in the back proved to be the fatal wound.

The gunman laid in wait for him. This was not a random on the street shooting. This was a targeted attack.

Clearly, the gunman waited for him to cross the street. He knew where that this individual,

who he was targeting, was coming from, and he shot him numerous times. In addition, on the street, three spent shells

were left in addition to three live rounds were left on the sidewalk, which means his gun jammed

and in efforts to clear his firearm,

what we do is call rack and tap.

He racked the slide, which ejected live rounds.

So we'll get into what all of that means in regards to evidentiary,

the evidence that the detectors will look for and that the crime scene unit will hopefully be able to identify this individual.
