In Christian Science, we learn about the need to defend ourselves against aggressive mental

suggestion. For years, I've been wondering why Mary Bakerady, the founder of Christian

science, labeled suggestions aggressive.

Recently, I got more understanding of that.

One evening, I decided to take a break from my academic studies to pray,

to remind myself of my totally spiritual identity as an idea of God's.

However, when I woke up the next day, I felt a heavy mental lord I never had before.

Everything seemed chaotic and dark.

I felt mentally paralyzed, unable to affirm anything good about myself.

I reached for my phone and worked with some lyrics from the Christian Science hymnal.

Man is the noblest work of God.

His beauty, power and grace, immortal,

perfect as his mind reflected face to face.

As I listened to the melody,

I slowly started regaining some mental clarity,

which gave me strength to affirm my relationship

to God as true and perfect as the hymn says. I felt God's love so vividly that it was enough

to make me realize how precious I was in the sight of God.

After that, all of those dark suggestions just vanished,

and I was able to stand up, take a shower, and go to my two exams.
