charity. It was part of the settlement movement of the early 20th century,

where members of a community came together to offer free services to the poor.

More than 100 years later, Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio still exists.

And they do things like operate homeless shelters, daycares, assisted living for seniors.

Basically, there's a huge part of our social safety net in this country that, you know,

that the history is that they started with a bunch of people at a church somewhere.
