Hi, this is Nancy, and I'm calling from Fort Wayne, Indiana.

A few days back, we got a message here at the show, from a listener after my own heart.

A listener who cannot help but talk to people about what's going on in the world.

Like she said, her name's Nancy.

I am a 64-year-old retiree, and I recently filed for Social Security benefits.

We'd asked you to tell us stories about how you are seeing government funding cuts in your own lives.

Nancy's story is about Social Security.

Her checks were not coming in until she got on the phone with a guy named Larry,

who realized Nancy's caseworker was on medical leave, and then he took it upon himself to get her sorted out.

And when he was done, he completed the application for me.

I've already got the benefits in my bank account, thanks to him.

But when he was done, he said, I said to him, so are you expecting, like, you know, firings at

Social Security anytime soon. And he said, we're expecting 7,000 more not eliminations. And I said, how's that going to work?

I mean, you're already so behind in benefits. And he said, I honestly don't know. And I said,

are you likely to keep your job? And he said, I don't know. Can I just say, I love that Nancy

asked this call center worker, what was up with him?
