but here and across America,

men are going through profound changes.

I'm Tim Samuels for the BBC World Service.

And these are changes I've been writing about for a while.

Arguing that for man who aren't the privileged or dominant ones at the top, these are actually tough and confusing times to be a man,

and that's having serious consequences for all of us.

BBC set me off to investigate but months into this investigation a shockwave hit triggered by accusations against one of Hollywood's most powerful figures that's unleashed a reckoning for abusive men across the country and upended gender relations.

With these events unfolding, my exploration into the state of men and masculinity across the world

moves this episode from Nigeria to North Carolina in the US,

gauging what men and women really think at this pivotal time.

A time in which male power is at last openly being called into question. But amongst many ordinary

men living paycheck to paycheck, it's also seen as a period of restless uncertainty, frustration, self-destructive behaviour, an appetite for more radical macho politics. a to have a home and raise your family.
