Summary

Do you have a Miraculous Medal? Do you keep it close by?

On The Patrick Madrid Show, Helene from Arizona called in with a great question that you might have wondered too: What makes the Miraculous Medal so miraculous? Here's Patrick's response.

A Brief History: It all started with St. Catherine Labouré, a French nun who received a private vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary back in the 1800s. An angel led her to a chapel where Our Lady asked for a medal to be created, showing her image on one side and powerful symbols on the other. This medal was meant to be a sign of love for God and Mary, and a way to ask for graces that people often miss out on simply because they don’t even ask!

Countless Miracles: Since then, there have been countless stories of miracles linked to the Miraculous Medal—healings, conversions, and dramatic transformations. The stories are too many to count now, but they all share something in common: this simple devotion has led people to deeper faith in Jesus and His Mother.

What's It For? Think of the medal like a wedding ring—a visible reminder of your love and devotion. When you feel it or see it, you’re reminded of your connection to God. Plus, it's a conversation starter! If someone asks, you get to share your faith. That's always a good thing, right?!

Want to Learn More? Patrick recommends checking out The Miraculous Medal: Stories, Prayers, and Devotions by Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle for some inspiring real-life miracles connected to this devotion. And in case you’re wondering—yes, Patrick wears one too!

It’s a simple, powerful way to keep your heart close to Our Lady and Jesus. ⛪

Let's go to Helene now in Arizona. Good morning, Helene.

Yeah, hi, Patrick. I have a question.

0:05.5

What makes the miraculous medal so miraculous?

0:08.6

What has been done to it?

0:10.1

I heard of someone who was transported into the presence of Mary and Jesus.

0:14.5

Was this a real vision or not? Is this a rare result?

0:18.1

Okay. So perhaps there you're thinking about sister Catherine Labore, who was the religious

0:24.1

sister at Rue-de-Bach, the convent at Rue-de-Bach in Paris, when our lady appeared, and she was

0:30.6

awoken by an angel, and she was told, Our Lady is waiting for you in the chapel. Now, I've been there

0:36.1

a couple of times, and you can actually see the chair where our lady was seated in the middle of the night, and the angel

0:42.5

brought her there into the chapel, and so she had a conversation with our lady. And the result of

0:49.8

these conversations was that she wanted a metal struck that would have the image of her on the front

0:56.6

and then I won't describe the whole miraculous metal to you but each of the components had a

1:01.8

significance and she said if people wear this and I think the recommendation was wired on a chain

1:08.6

around your neck doesn't have to be that way but that was the recommendation that this would be a sign of the person's devotion to our lady and love for God,

1:17.3

and it would entail a way of asking for graces that are available to us that we don't get because we don't ask for them.

1:26.8

And so the upshot of it is that that particular religious sister had this experience in this

1:33.2

private revelation with our lady.

1:35.4

And when the medal was struck, indeed, there are countless stories of conversion, in some

1:41.6

cases miraculous, dramatic conversions of people who in some way had a connection

1:47.0

with the miraculous metal. And the stories are now too numerous. This is going back a couple

1:53.0

hundred years now. The stories are too numerous to even have a file on them. There's just so many
