I began to realise that there was a serial killer that was working on that ward and was causing

the collapses of these children.

It almost defies belief when that sort of thing happens in a small rural community.

Because somehow you immediately think that everybody knows everybody else's business

and that it's impossible, how can a child disappear into thin air in a tiny Welsh village

in which everybody pretty much knows everybody else.

But that's the devil in plain sight, isn't it?
