Hey, everybody, welcome to the single tracks podcast. My name is Jeff, and today we're going to be talking about trail building with a very special guest, Mr. Walt Brady.

Walt is a professional trail builder and trail educator. He's got his own trail building company called Be Ready Trails, and he's going to be sharing some of his knowledge with us. So

Well, so let's get started talking about your background. So how did you get started building and

advocating for mountain bike trails? Well, I got my first mountain bike in 1988,

and I discovered this group called Sorba.

I was riding up at Bull Mountain.

I saw a sign about something called Nimbleville Festival,

and I was like, what was that?

And somebody said, oh, that was last weekend.

Okay, it was a sign from one of, oh, that was last weekend. Okay.

It was a sign from one of their group rides that was up on the trail.

And found out where the meetings were, went to one, went to another one, and was like, this is pretty cool.

They were doing actually a trail workday at Gainesville State College.

Well, it wasn't that to college.

That's where we met.

But it was at Chikipy Woods, and they were building one of the first trails from the parking lot over there that what I recall was just kind of cutting a bunch of sticker bushes

and clearing corridor for this trail that's probably, shoot, I'm going to have to say,

95, 96 maybe time frame.

Yeah, so what drew you to that?

Did you enjoy the trail building, like early on like that?

Or was it more just a way to give back to mountain biking?
