Summary

What did the apostle Paul mean when he listed “the working of miracles” as a spiritual gift in 1 Corinthians 12:10? If God can perform miracles through any believer who prays and acts in faith, why does Paul distinguish this ability as a unique gift of the Spirit? In this episode of Apostolic Life in the 21st Century, Dr. David K. Bernard unpacks Paul’s teaching on the working of miracles, explaining how this gift operates, how it differs from the general exercise of faith, and why God ...

Dr. Bernard, we've been trying to work our way through all nine spiritual gifts that Paul lists in 1st Corinthians chapter 12.

I want to ask you about another one today. I would also say to all of our audience members that if they want to hear your discussion of the other gifts of the spirit,

they can do so on our YouTube playlist or search for those on Apple Podcasts or whatever podcast

platform they're listening on.

But today I want to specifically ask you about a gift that Paul mentions in verse 10, which

0:32.3

he calls the working of miracles.

is going to exercise every gift. I would say every spirit-filled believer could potentially

1:19.0

exercise any of these gifts as the need arises and as the Lord wills. But it's not likely that

1:26.5

any one person would be used in all nine, at least not on a

1:30.1

regular basis. And it's very likely that when someone is used in certain gifts, they become

1:36.9

familiar with that, they yield to that, they have faith for that, and so they're likely to be

1:41.3

used again and again in those same gifts as opposed to

1:45.3

different ones. So the fact that not everyone will exercise this, I think as I've mentioned in
