| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to a new week on the podcast. |
| 0:05.8 | This is a really good question from a listener named Danny. |
| 0:10.6 | Hello, Pastor John, and thank you for this podcast. |
| 0:13.9 | My question is this. |
| 0:16.4 | What is the sin that does not lead to death in 1 John 5, verses 16 and 17? |
| 0:23.6 | Can you explain the difference between a sin that leads to death and a sin that doesn't? |
| 0:29.6 | Well, let me venture an answer in summary form and then drop back and give the foundations for it from the context of 1 John and the wider New Testament teaching. |
| 0:43.4 | Here's my answer. |

| 1:34.4 | So that's a very sweeping and glorious and wonderful and precious promise. |
| 1:39.2 | If you can confess your sin authentically, agree with God that it is sin, it stinks. |
| 1:45.8 | I hate it and turn from it, fight against it. |
| 1:49.6 | You will be forgiven. |
| 1:52.2 | However, Hebrews 12, 16 says talking about Esau in the Old Testament and what happened to him. |
| 2:02.2 | See to it that no one is sexually immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. |
| 2:12.8 | For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected. |
| 2:19.2 | For he found no place for repentance, though he sought it with tears. |
