What is the one doctrine upon which the church stands or falls?

0:05.0

So there are a lot of doctrines in Christian theology that are really important that we might say,

0:09.0

if you were messing with this doctrine, you're striking at the vitals of the Christian religion.

0:19.0

We could bring up the doctrine of God.

0:24.6

You think of the Holy Trinity or the doctrine of Christ, the deity of Christ.

0:29.6

You can't mess with those doctrines and be within the bounds of the Christian faith.

1:35.7

Is this biblical? Well, I think we can look at a place like Romans chapter four to establish

1:41.3

this doctrine. In Romans chapter four, the apostle Paul is talking about the doctrine

1:47.7

of justification. And he says in verse five, to the one who does not work, but believes in him,

1:56.5

in God, who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness.

2:03.7

Just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one whom God counts righteousness apart from works.

2:09.3

So you have here in justification this idea of counting righteousness.

2:13.8

Think of a banking metaphor, for example.
