I've been going through some of my old comic book and action figure collections from when I was a kid.

I can't believe all the cool stuff in here.

Oh, check it out. Volume 14 of

the ginormous gunk. You know, the mild-mannered scientist who morphs into a super strong,

super gooey, super booger. Classic stuff. He was studying snot that had been bombarded with radiation.

There was a lab accident, got powers, tail as old as time.

Actually, now that I think about it,

there are a lot of characters in these comics that are special because of radiation.

But in real life, I keep hearing that radiation can be dangerous.

What even is radiation anyway?

Elias had the same question.

Radiation is energy that moves from one place to another.

We can't see it moving around, but it is everywhere, and it comes from all different sources.

My name is Nicholas Dranchi, and I study experimental nuclear physics.

Here on Earth, radiation is everywhere.

The sun gives off visible light, which is radiation.

Heat can be transferred through infrared radiation.

The rocks and buildings around us all have small amounts of radioactivity in them that can emit

radiation as well.
