Terms Learned in This Episode:

Cardiovascular System: The system God designed that pumps blood through our bodies using the heart organ and blood vessels.

Heart: An organ made of muscle that pumps blood through our bodies.

Oxygen: An element that fuels our bodies and keeps us alive. The heart pumps blood, full of oxygen, through our bodies.

Blood Vessels: A system of tubes that carries blood through our bodies.

Carbon Dioxide: A molecule made from oxygen and carbon. Our bodies create carbon dioxide that needs to be exhaled (breathed out) from our bodies. Our blood helps carry carbon dioxide, a waste product, out.

Pericardium: A thin sac full of fluid that protects the heart muscle.

Endocardium: An inner lining in the heart that protects the heart muscle and its chambers and valves.

Myocardium: The actual muscle that makes up the heart.

Mitochondria: The organelle (“little organ”) inside our cells that acts as a power plant for our cells.

Red Blood Cells: Cells in the body that do not have a nucleus. They have iron (metal) and carry oxygen.

Lungs: An organ that inhales and exhales, bringing oxygen in and out of our bodies.

Aorta: The body’s largest artery (like a big tube) that carries blood full of oxygen from the heart to the rest of the body.

Coronary Arteries: Arteries (like tubes) that carry blood to the heart.
