Summary

This week we welcome Charles Dowding, the godfather of the no dig method! There is no one better to give us the scoop on no dig. In this method, you don’t disturb the soil as much as possible, add mulch on top to stop the weeds, and feed the soil with organic matter. method popular with a really millions of people around the world. I think your garden has been

a huge inspiration to me. I was fortunate enough to come out and visit it a couple of years back

0:39.4

and do a video with you and we've done a couple things since then, but it's great to have you on,

0:43.6

officially on the beat, our new name for the Epic Gardening podcast.

0:47.5

Well thank you. It's a pleasure to be here and to see you again as well and to track.

0:52.1

Yeah, yeah. It's been a long time. I'd love to get back over there and see. I understand you,

0:56.7

you just bought another acre and have been expanding the space. I did. Yeah, it wasn't planned either.

1:03.0

The Nova said there might be a possibility. I actually didn't want to buy it at first. I thought,

1:07.5

oh no, you know, I don't need more jobs. Right. So it's slightly relaxing. I'm really glad I did

1:13.3

1:19.1

primarily that you purchased the extra space is to have more growing areas to test out different

1:23.9

theories. Yeah, when I moved home because 10 years ago, 11 years, that was my original intention.

1:30.5

And it's always underlaying a lot of what I do is to do that exactly. It's a teaching garden.

1:35.4

And I've got the space and a bit of spare time to do that. And I can try out new things and share

1:41.7

that with everybody else. Got it. And is that whole new acre? That's I know dig space still, right?

1:49.2

Well, a lot of it's still wild. Actually, probably about half of it haven't yet.

1:52.8

I've got anywhere with it. I've never had a plan, but it's just given me room to try new things.

1:56.6

And I'm cropping on it around a tenth of an acre, maybe. I've got my big new shares and I've
