Summary

To live “down under” is to live life without God. To work all day, hope to beat traffic, eat, and watch TV, only to get up and do it all over again. This kind of meaningless living is what Ecclesiastes calls “life under the sun.” But to live under the authority of God is to live “above the sun.” In this six-part series What’s It Like Down Under? Michael Youssef provides a vivid reminder of the difference between a life of emptiness and one of eternal meaning.

0:18.8	When King Solomon uses the term under the sun in the book of Ecclesiastes, he is referring to a life
0:28.0	without God. Whenever you hear the term under the sun, he is talking about a life that is lived
0:35.3	in this life without God. In fact, the book of Ecclesiastes,
0:40.6	King Solomon repeats those words under the sun so many times. I didn't count him.
0:48.3	And he's basically saying this, that there is nothing new under the sun.
0:57.4	Everything that scientists discovered has always been there.
1:02.6	There is monotony and there is boredom under the sun.
1:06.4	He said life is really empty under the sun.
1:13.7	He said life is meaningless when you live it under the sun. Because under the sun in the Bible as a euphemism, as I told you, of a life that is lived without God. But a life that is lived
1:21.0	with God and in fellowship with God and under the authority of God, it is a life that is
1:26.4	lived above the sun.
1:28.4	So that everyone who has ever been born and ever will be born, every human being
1:33.7	can live either under the sun or above the sun.
1:37.8	Every human being that was ever born and will ever be born, they either experience
1:43.7	meaninglessness in life and emptiness and boredom
1:49.6	because they live it without God under the sun, or they can experience it as fulfilling and joyful
1:57.7	and exciting life because they live it above the sun with God.
2:02.8	The book of Ecclesiastes is really a great book because it just puts things together.
