Summary
It's common for people to conjure up images of plant spirits or think that energetics is some far out there esoteric "woo-woo" concept in herbalism.
This could not be farther from the truth.
In fact, before modern science came into fruition and chemical theory of medicinal plants came into being, energetic models permeated literally every culture and tradition of plant medicine across the world.
And what's interesting about these different traditions, is that they essentially discovered the same principles of how plants heal. The traditions may have been different, but their system of energetics were for the most part exactly the same.
Energetics encompasses not a mechanistic model of the human body and how plants heal, but rather informs us of an ecological perspective on human health- on how we are a microcosm of the macrocosm, a mere reflection of nature. This is a highly refined system of analysis, evaluation, therapeutics, formulation, and administration of herbal medicines.
And we know it works because it was practiced this way for thousands of years before we knew anything about sesquiterpene lactones, iridoid glycosides, and alkaloids!!
