Summary

Burnout and weariness are often rooted in a disconnect from God’s empowering presence. But grace is a gift from God and a shelter from condemnation. Our life in Christ is always based on abiding, and God’s love for Jesus is our starting point for grace.

Key Scriptures:

+ Ephesians 2:8. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.

+ James 1:17. Every good thing and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

+ John 15:9. As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.

Welcome back to the Brilliant Perspectives podcast. I'm your host, Jalen Bowden, and we're

0:07.3

wrapping up our month-long series on the cross by talking all about grace. And you know,

0:13.5

I'm sure we've all heard many different teachings on this topic over the years, but I had

0:18.6

never heard it described this way. That grace is God's empowering presence. That teaches

0:25.9

us how to stay in relationship with Christ so that we can become all that he sees when

0:32.2

he looks at us. And listen, this is transformational thinking, because when we finally settle

0:39.1

it within ourselves, that we have a God who fully loves us and patiently walks with us,

0:45.6

that is when our learning really starts to multiply. We start to feel safe to ask him questions,

0:53.0

to take a step, and even to learn from it if we fall. Because we have a father who picks

0:58.7

us up so gently, then teaches us how to try again. That right there is grace. It empowers

1:06.6

us to delight in the kindness of God, and it teaches us how to stay in that safe, powerful

1:12.8

place of our acceptance in Christ. Let's dive in with Graham as we learn more about grace.

1:19.1

What people call burnout or weariness, I think is often rooted in a disconnect from God's

1:30.2

empowering presence. Trying to manage our own spirituality in our own strength will always end

1:38.7

up in a place of exhaustion and frustration. You can't discover God's true nature of freedom

1:45.6

in your own strength, and you were never meant to. The empowering presence of Christ in you

1:53.0

is always your starting point. In any place of chaos or striving in your life, see grace as a

2:02.4

shelter, a shelter from condemnation, from shame, even from turmoil. Because grace is the

2:13.7

empowering presence of God that enables you to become the person that he sees when he looks at

2:22.2

you in and through Jesus. So just take a moment to be with him in that thought. Let thanks giving

2:32.3

rise up in your heart, that it bubble up with anticipation. The weight is not on you to initiate

2:41.3

this process. It's on his empowering presence for you to become all that he created you to be.
