All right, today I want to ask you, do you know what is destroying you? Do you know what

it is? That's tearing you down, perhaps from the inside out. Our passage today is simple,

but true. We're looking at Proverbs chapter 18 verse number 12. It says, before destruction,

a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. Now that word haughty is not

one that we use very much. It's H-A-U-G-H-T-Y, haughty. And it means proud. It could mean arrogant.

And so with that in mind, let's re-read the verse before destruction. A man's heart is proud,

but humility comes before honor. Now what we're being told here is that pride is not the virtue

that we have been taught that it is. In our culture, people have said, be proud. Be confident. Be

one who stands up for yourself. All of those kinds of things are said to encourage us to have,

quote, unquote, better self-esteem, and to encourage us to push past insecurities and things like that.

But friends, those mindsets are not biblical mindsets. They're cultural compensations

for the things that we struggle with as human beings. So we feel insecurity. Our culture compensates

and says, you should be proud. When we feel perhaps alone or we feel we're being criticized

unjustly, our culture says you should be proud. You should be proud of yourself. Don't let

them get to you. You see, our culture is compensating for the insecurities that we feel. And

oftentimes we as God's people have been drawn into thinking the same things and in the same ways.

When if we just looked to God's word here in Proverbs 1812, we're told,

haughtiness or pride brings destruction. Not the thing that we're hoping that it will.
