One of the most dangerous and uncomfortable questions that I've been wrestling with lately,

and I hope you have too, is what exactly is a Zionist?

What is Zionism?

And what should the relationship between Jews and Arabs and between Israel and the Arab world be?

Is a Zionist somebody who believes that Jews should be able to parachute onto other people's land,

boot them out and then occupy them militarily forever, or put an embargo on them so that they have to live in squalid open-air

refugee camps in perpetuity? Or is a Zionist, someone who believes that just as Arabs have

lots and lots of different states, there should be one state in the world for the most

persecuted ethnic minority in history, whatever that looks like. Those two questions have been increasingly

difficult to disentangle over the past couple of years. And so I'm working through this as much as

anyone is. You will notice that I've gotten myself into all kinds of trouble from both sides,

as I try to grope my way towards an understanding of what is just here and what

is reasonable as well as just. Charlotte Korchak is an educator of Jewish and Israeli history. She goes

around the world trying to explain to people Zionism as she sees it through the Jerusalem

Education Institute. And you may have noticed a viral video that went around of Charlotte at Auschwitz, at the

death camp, where she was displaying an Israeli flag and was accosted by other attendees

who thought that that was in bad taste.
