0:28.0 | It's very, very confusing what is a carbohydrate and how is that different than a sugar? |
0:33.0 | So let's just clear that up. |
0:35.0 | Carbohydrates are made up of sugars, starches, and fiber. |
0:41.0 | The biochemical name for carbohydrate is a saccharide. |
0:46.0 | So basically, carbohydrates are a compound of these. |
0:51.0 | These are saccharides and carbohydrates are classified by the number of saccharides. |
0:57.0 | The Greek word for saccharides is sugar, okay? |
1:02.0 | Now we have mono-saccharides, okay? |
1:05.0 | Mano means single or one. |
1:08.0 | So mono-saccharide would be one of these that would be glucose or fructose or galactose. |
1:18.0 | This would be considered a simple sugar. |
1:21.0 | You also have dextrose and others, but I'm going to keep it fairly basic. |
1:25.0 | Next one, and there's four, okay, is dye saccharides. |
1:31.0 | Okay, dye means two. |
1:33.0 | Two of these right here, okay? |
1:36.0 | It's called two mono-saccharides. |
1:38.0 | So an example of a dye saccharide would be like table sugar or sucrose. |
