Hello and welcome to The Spectator's Americano podcast, a series of discussions about American politics and the Trump presidency in 2017.

0:13.6

I'm Freddie Gray and I'm Deputy Editor of The Spectator.

0:16.2

Today we're going to be talking about the protest movement against Donald Trump, and I'm joined by John Neffel,

0:21.9

who is a Rolling Stone journalist, who has been covering the protests quite closely.

0:27.3

John, we've only had less than a month of the Trump presidency, and already we've seen

0:32.4

a lot of protesting. Here in Britain, we get the impression that the next four years of America

0:37.3

might just be lots and lots of protests. Is that fair, or get the impression that the next four years of America might just

0:37.9

be lots and lots of protests. Is that fair? Or do you not even think we're going to have four years

1:21.1

ways, it feels like it's a criminal enterprise just waiting for a shoe to drop. And that may be

1:26.1

premature to say that, but it sort of has that

1:28.6

conspiratorial feel to it. And as far as the turnout, one of the phrases that people have

1:34.9

started using lately, which I think actually captures the mood pretty well, is protest is the new

1:41.2

brunch, right? So people are getting used to dedicating time on Sunday or Saturday

1:48.2

to going out to rallies, going to local organizations that otherwise they would have sat around

1:55.8

having Cuevos, Rancheros, and mimoses with friends. And now a lot of those friends,

2:01.9

they're still with the same people, but instead they're at a rally or a protest. And so I think for the immediate future,
