School's out and summer is in session. But for some, this season is anything but relaxing. That's because many colleges have shut their doors, for good.

Since the onset of the pandemic, colleges have been shutting down rapidly, now at a rate of one every week.

We discuss what happens to students and faculty when their college closes, and why so many of them finding it difficult to stay open.

My son Owen just finished his freshman year at Philadelphia's University of the Arts a couple of weeks ago.

He's a vocal performance major and was really looking forward to his sophomore year.

In fact, the morning of May 31st, we had just received notice that we could pay his tuition.

Later that day, we saw an article on the Philadelphia Inquires website stating that the

college is unexpectedly shut down.

He didn't know where he was going to spend his sophomore year and still doesn't.

So it's been a heck of a summer for this really talented 19 year old vocalist trying to

figure out a path in life, which no college sophomore should ever need to worry about.
