Honor song? This is the beat of an honor song.

Chicago is a city of neighborhoods, known for vibrant, cultural communities like the Puerto Rican community in Humboldt Park and the South Asian

population in Westridge. But what about Native Americans? One curious city listener wanted to know

if natives currently have a neighborhood enclave in the city. Native people have always been in

Chicago, and the population is actually higher now than it has ever been

since the city was incorporated. While there isn't one concentrated neighborhood anymore,

Uptown, on the city's north side, used to be that nucleus during the mid-20th century.

Going all through Uptown, you could walk down the street and you'd always see Indians.

Tribal citizens from across the country came to urban areas like Chicago for jobs,

and because of federal relocation programs that sought to eliminate reservations

and assimilate native people.
