Today though, there's another threat out there, climate change.

This could be the warmest year on record.

And while the threat seems new, the Pentagon's been funding studies on climate change since the 1950s.

I think we will put our troops and our forces at higher risk if we don't recognize the impact of climate change.

We know businesses were hiring last month and the mood is lifting slightly for small business

owners. I'm David Brancaccio. People who own small

businesses acquired some optimism in September according to a survey out this

morning from the National Federation of Independent Business, the Sentiment Index there, rose three points to 91.5,

although that is below the historic average of 98.

The survey focuses less on service firms and more in construction, manufacturing, agriculture, and retail.
