Summary

Specifically, about how his nervous system handles sex. Continuing on the theme this week—first Dr. Laurie Watson and now my own work. I've asked this question at men's weekends, in coachings, and the answer almost always surprises me. A lot of men know the very, very basics of arousal in their own bodies, but that's...it. Let's change that. Did you enjoy the podcast? If so, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, or Podchaser. And I wanted to start talking about how your arousal system as a man actually functions.

0:11.5

You can learn very quickly how to deal with, you know, non-medical erectile dysfunction,

0:19.4

orgasming too quickly, performance anxiety, all of these things

0:24.3

can be very quickly understood of how you can begin to move through them and prevent them and

0:29.9

end them in your life for good by understanding how your sexual arousal system actually works.

0:36.9

So let's start right there. So first and foremost,

0:39.3

how does it work for you to get a erection? I asked this at a weekend that I recently led. I've asked

0:44.8

this at events with, you know, hundreds of guys. And it's funny because most men will just respond

0:50.7

with, well, just, you know, blood goes into my penis. I get hard and that's it.

0:54.7

It's not that simple. The reality of what actually happens has much more to do with your

1:00.5

autonomic nervous system. It actually has to do with that hinge between your sympathetic

1:06.7

nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system. So just as a quick brief reminder, and hopefully

1:12.8

the scientific explanation supports, because I found it to be very, very helpful for a lot of men.

1:18.1

Your sympathetic nervous system is the gas pedal. That's what helps you get stuff done. That's your

1:23.2

go button, but it's also the stress part of your nervous system. So when you're in that part,

1:28.5

you're able to go and do things. You are able to execute on your task list and get things done

1:34.0

around the house or at work. And the parasympathetic is that rest and digest nervous system.

1:40.3

So you can think of this as like gas pedal for the sympathetic nervous system, break pedal for the parasympathetic nervous system.

1:47.3

So as you are more in that go mode, right, during the day, you're at the gym, you go to work, you're working on the task list, you're writing emails.

1:56.1

All of that is putting you into this sympathetic nervous system response, which is not necessarily a bad
