Summary

Most of the time the right-wing media scream that government should not interfere with the police. But when the police make a decision the media disapproves of, it screams the opposite. In doing so this tells us much about the blurred lines of responsibility and the confusion about the role of the state – that partly explains why 'nothing works' remains a powerful motif in British politics.

Rock & Roll Politics - The Christmas Special is live at Kings Place on the 8th of December. Tickets are available now at the Kings Place website here.

1:06.5

Irrespective of whether you think he's right to intervene in the first place, has he the power to do so?

1:13.4

Anyway, and that raises wider questions about the state of the state in Britain and the confused layers of where power lies.
