Summary

I recently released some content all about how important it is for men to lead in the context of a relationship. It got a ton of traction, lots of questions, and requests to clarify/dig deeper. So let's truly dig into it! This is the first of four mini-episodes focused entirely on "relational leadership": the way you guide, support, and lead your relationship (and your partner) as necessary. Did you enjoy the podcast? If so, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, or Podchaser. It helps us get into the ears of new listeners, expand the ManTalks Community, and help others find the self-leadership they’re looking for. All right, man, welcome back to the man talk show. I'm Connor Beaton. And today we are talking about what

0:06.3

relational leadership actually looks like. So recently, I posted a video and a podcast all about

0:13.6

how important it is for you as a man to lead within the context of your relationship.

0:17.7

Got a ton of traction, lots of questions. And there were so many questions, in fact,

0:21.9

that I decided to do a four-part follow-up segment. And this is part one of four in that series.

0:28.4

So let's just dive straight in. The first thing that I want to talk about within the context of,

0:33.5

what does it look like to lead within your relationship is the definition of leadership.

0:39.3

you might have your own definition, other people might have their own definition. But for me, leading within'm defining it here, you might have your own definition, other people

0:54.3

might have their own definition. But for me, leading within the context of the relationship is

0:59.4

being able to influence yourself and your partner when necessary towards the vision of the

1:07.6

relationship. Now, this presupposes one thing, obviously, which is that you have a vision

1:13.3

for your relationship. And that vision should be, what does your dynamic look like with your partner?

1:18.9

Not who they are, because a lot of guys will be like, oh, I want a woman that looks like this and does

1:23.4

this and talks like that and behaves like this. Those things are fine, right? But what I'm talking

1:28.3

about is what's the vision for the relationship, right? Do you want to be in the type of relationship

1:31.9

that challenges you, that pushes you to be a little bit of a better man? Do you want to be in the

1:35.9

type of relationship where you travel often, where you share goals together and bucket list

1:41.4

experiences? Or does the relationship, does the vision that you have for your

1:45.4

relationship serve a very different purpose, right? Is that person there to support you as you
