A big move by the Federal Trade Commission could

affect a slew of pending buyouts in the pharmaceutical space. Last week, the FTC cleared drug

giant Amgen to move forward with its acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics. It's a deal expected

to be worth $27.8 billion. The idea of Amgen acquiring Horizon Therapeutics has been on

the table since last December. Amgen had its site set on Horizon's rare disease assets, including

the thyroid eye disease drug to Pezza, according to CNBC. But in May, the deal was put on hold

after the FTC filed suit, claiming the acquisition could stifle competition in the drug industry.

It was the FTC's first legal challenge to a pharmaceutical buyout in 14 years.
