Summary

Do you ever wonder whether what you have to offer really matters? What if the ordinary thing in your hands could become part of God’s bigger story? In today’s episode, Tanya shares how Luke 19:28–48 reveals that Jesus can take ordinary offerings, like a borrowed donkey, and use them to advance his kingdom in extraordinary ways. Read the Bible with us in 2026! This year, we’re exploring the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Download your reading plan now. Do you remember the Ice Bucket Challenge on Instagram or TikTok or Facebook?

0:17.8

It was pretty much everywhere.

0:19.2

You couldn't scroll without seeing one.

0:21.8

You probably posted one yourself or at least got tagged in someone else's. But do you remember the why behind it?

Pete Freitz was a college baseball captain from Beverly, Massachusetts. He was the kind of guy

0:33.2

whose life looked like it was just getting started. Then at 27, he was diagnosed with ALS.

0:39.5

He was given three to five years. And by the time we all started hearing about the Ice Bucket

0:44.2

Challenge in 2014, he had lost most of his mobility and his ability to speak. But what he still

0:50.3

had was his phone and a social media account. And with those, he created a video of

someone pouring ice over his head. He shared it on social media. He added a challenge along with

1:01.1

his friends and family. He tagged all of the people in his network. And within a month, it had

1:06.3

reached celebrities. It had reached heads of state. And by the end of that summer, 17 million people

1:12.7

had participated, and $220 million was raised worldwide for ALS. That funding led to a gene

1:21.3

discovery that probably wouldn't have happened on the same timeline without those funds. Pete died in

1:27.2

December 2019, and what he sat in motion

1:30.8

with the small thing that he had, his social media account, is still unfolding in labs and

1:37.7

clinical trials today. What looks small in our hands or what may seem insignificant at the time that we give it or start doing it has a way of becoming something else entirely.

The gap isn't new.

1:51.7

In fact, it shows up in one of the most familiar stories in the Bible, and it starts with someone being asked to hand over the most valuable thing they own.

Hmm, believe it or not, it's a donkey.
