Sweeping layoffs and hiring freezes hit the tech industry hard this year.

Over 50,000 jobs were lost in November alone, according to layoffs.fi, a site tracking

tech layoffs.

The height of the pandemic was good for the tech industry, but as life moves back offline,

companies are beginning to let go of the employees they hired back when business was booming.

Outside of tech, the labor market seemed steady leading into the new year.

The US added 263,000 new jobs last month, and the unemployment rate remained at 3.7% just

above a historic low.

So what accounts with the tech industry's economic wobbles?

And what could they mean for the economy as a whole?
