One of the things I like to do if I'm super stressed is to go and find videos of cute animals.

I know I'm not alone in this,

because, of course, the internet was essentially invented to be a repository of photos of cats.

Am I right?

Or, okay, well, there's a lot of these videos out there.

But some of my favorite ones are the ones of animals supposedly dreaming, like puppies

with their little feet going as if they're running in some kind of mythical field of, I don't

know, dog treats. Those always seem to make me feel a little better and a little less stressed.

But I didn't really realize the implications of this

anthropomorphization, if that's what it is, until I read a book by David Pena Guzman. He's an associate

professor of humanities and liberal studies at San Francisco State University. And he's an animal

ethicist.

He's also the co-author of a book called Chimpanzee writes,

and he hosts The Overthink podcast.

But he recently wrote a book called When Animals Dream,

exploring the hidden world of animal consciousness.
