Summary

Sir Keir Starmer has declared 'change has begun' in Liverpool. He defended the cuts to the winter fuel payments, announced a Hillsborough Law, and saw off a heckler. But did we learn anything from the speech in terms of policy? Is he leaving conference in a better or worse position than he entered? Isabel Hardman is joined by James Heale and Katy Balls.

0:54.4

bordered a sight on the soporific really, it sort of went off the audience, there was long

0:58.8

period without applause, but then there were some particular bits where, particularly when he was denouncing the thugs and the far right rioters of this summer's disturbances,

1:08.0

where he got strong applause on that, also talking about homelessness, and then the conclusion as well listing the various achievements

1:13.6

and values of this Labour government and they obviously ate that all up and of course there was a moment with

1:18.0

a heckler as well and I think these days every Labour politician wants to have a heckler

1:22.4

because it means that they get

1:23.5

someone to denounce and talk about the Change Labor Party. So overall I think it did

1:27.2

nothing that people in the hall enjoyed it but I think that for people coming
