A deal to stop the fighting in the Middle East and restart the flow of oil.

The U.S. and Iran have reached a tentative deal to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan, which has served as a mediator, says the agreement will be signed on Friday in Switzerland.

Marketplace's Nancy Marshall-Genzor explains what comes next. Details of the agreement are scarce. We don't

know who will control the strait, if there will be any restrictions on traffic or tolls. Iranian

officials apparently think they'll be regulating traffic through the strait with Oman. So there's a lot of uncertainty.

That's likely to show up in the price of oil. We could be in for another week of volatility.

And even if the strait does reopen on Friday, shipping won't go back to normal right away.

It could take weeks to work through the backlog of vessels waiting to go through the straight,

and they'll have to leave carefully, dodging the mines that still have to be cleared away. That could take weeks or months.

It could take even longer to get the flow of natural gas through the straight back to normal.

Iranian missile strikes knocked out some of Qatar's gas export facilities.

It's expected to take years to get them fully back online.
