0:07.7	John and I are taking a part of this week's lesson, which is Matthew chapter 1 and Luke
0:12.2	chapter 1, and just talking about a tiny portion of it.
0:16.3	John, we've got all sorts of people listed in Matthew 1 and Luke 1 from Abraham to David
0:23.0	to Joseph and Mary and Elizabeth and Zacharias.
0:27.8	And then you go to the rest of the Christmas story and you've got shepherds and angels
0:31.8	and herod and wise men.
0:34.2	What do you take from all these characters?
0:36.1	Is there any of them that stand out to you?
0:38.4	One fun way to look at it whenever you see a name in the scriptures is to ask yourself,
0:42.8	is this person an example?
0:44.8	Like I want to be like that or is this person a warning?
0:47.4	I don't want to be like that.
0:49.5	And boy do we have some contrasts here.
0:52.5	We've got Joseph who, the angel Lord visits him in a dream.
0:56.4	We've got Herod who was so wicked and sometimes when there's not a whole lot of doctrine being
1:01.2	taught, we can look at the examples of the people and say, which one of those do I admire,
1:06.7	which ones do I own avoid?
1:07.9	I mean, I've heard you talk about Herod before and Joseph and what a contrast those two
1:13.6	are in their personal character.
1:16.0	Matthew put them side by side and here you've got Joseph who is very responsive to dreams,
1:21.8	very responsive to promptings.
