And I think there's still a lot of confusion about what this is and what it isn't.

Well, first of all, we already have background checks for firearm transfers, firearm purchases.

It's the instant background check.

If you go to a gun dealer to buy a gun, they're going to call the FBI and do a check.

Now some of the laws vary from state to state.

You have some states who require a 10 day waiting period or a seven day waiting period

or whatever that may be.

But just talking in generalities here, yes, there are already background checks exist.

Now what we're talking about with universal background checks is eliminating the private

sale or transfer of guns.

This is a key.

This doesn't involve necessarily selling a gun, but also transferring a gun.

And that's what's on the table.

That's what's being talked about with HR 8 and HR 1446 right now.

So what we're talking about is HR 8 would establish new background check requirements to basically

eliminate the private sale or transfer of any gun.

Now they did carve out a little prohibition as far as a gift between spouses and good

faith.

But it's basically saying if you wanted to give a gun to your brother, you can't do that.

You guys have to go down to a gun dealer and do a background check.
