Hello and welcome to Not Another One, the podcast with me, Tim Montgomery, Miranda Green and Ian Martin.

And now, the first one this week, we were exploring the international crisis from every

perspective, really, Europe, Russia, Ukraine, and of course the United States.

But one of my heroes, the historian, later story in AJP Taylor, once wrote a famous essay on the domestic consequences

of the First World War. And in his introduction, by the way, I'm not saying we're in that,

but it is interesting. International crises have domestic consequences. And in that essay,

he sort of observed at the beginning that domestic consequences are nearly always overlooked, and yet they are

always hugely significant. They were then and will be whatever happens in the current

international crisis. Before we look at all of that, I was wondering with us lot, we're clearly

obsessive followers of politics and things at times like this where there are

highly stressful twists and turns on a near hourly basis do you you said the other day

lots of your friends are choosing to switch off and obviously they listen to us to get

enlightened of course they do.

But do you try...

Pain of excommunication. Do you try and sort of say, right, I'm going to do something else rather than think about all this? Do you know, yoga or kind of running, anything to get away from thinking about these things?

Well, I have a lot of multi-generational family responsibilities, which I have to say are

actually quite liberating in a funny sort of way, because if you've just got to concentrate on

what to do about the 91-year-old and the two teenagers, you're going to have to park

your anxieties about the status of the, you know,

status of NATO's security guarantee for at least 45 minutes, you know.

So there's that.
