Summary

This Players Monday episode begins by tackling the question of whether an Illinois B1G championship mitigates the despair of Westy fading at The Players in Andy’s world. They immediately jump into the JT-Westy contrasts, namely one putting together an all-time ballstriking round and the other desperately trying to cobble something respectable. They tear the band-aid off and re-live a “worst case scenario” for Andy. JT’s play and legacy are discussed, and Westy’s worst shot of the day is debated. There are giggles over the run of horrendous shanks and tops early in the round, which results in a Thicc impersonation. They also cover a setup quibble here and there, the Mattress King giving away his driver in the middle of a round, the Spieth-Sabbo contretemps, Doug Grim, and every shot live coverage. Brendan defends, maybe, the Players feeling major-ly to him. Rory’s comments about Bryson influencing his chase for speed and swing struggles are reviewed. News focuses on DJ opting out of the Olympics before one more round of Westy laments to sign off on a great week.

Now the shotgun's starting golf is full of mathematics, there's a lot of set up work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work, so I'm going to demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a shotgun start here.

And here we go.

0:17.0

All right, all right, all right.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engine!

Greetings and welcome to a Monday edition of the shotgun start. It is March 15th. Andy, how are we doing?

0:43.0

Brendan! It's a melancholy Monday.

0:50.0

We're recording almost immediately after the player's championship has come to a close. It's still light out. We got that extra hour of light today, 6.45 Eastern.

0:59.0

Your ally and I just captured the Big Ten Championship, basketball championship, the postseason, men's team did, but your Lee Westwood came up short.

1:10.0

It had to be agonizing. They were literally coming down in unison. Illinois going to overtime, Westy battling to basically, I don't know, the 18th fairway. It had to be excruciating for you.

1:22.0

It was awful. It was terrible too. Both the games were, you know, the golf and the Illinois game were going in these abs and flows, and Illinois was up really big early.

1:37.0

I was like, oh good, I can at least like, you know, at least this one's in the bag, you know, and then Westy made his charge late, kind of.

1:48.0

But yeah, then Illinois, you know, it was just, it was brutal. It was two screens. It was a lot of emotions. I'm emotionally spent.

1:58.0

Yeah, your wife. But we figured we could early get the emotion when it was raw. It sort of didn't have time to calm down, didn't have time to lift your spirits.

2:07.0

We just want to kind of get this out and up and kind of when it's most.

2:12.0

At least, I mean, at least we know who the big Ted champion is.

2:17.0

Yeah, I don't think that's a dispute anymore. You got a one, oh, you got a one seed too, right? Yeah, happy about that.

2:23.0

We got Loyola though. They put Loyola the eight seed. They're playing great. They got this ill, you know, in state, little thing that's not good. That's not a good thing.

2:34.0

Did you see Oral Bob made it?

2:37.0

No, Bill Glassen must be jumping, maybe crack the smile somewhere and still water. Fantastic.

2:47.0

They're playing the 15 to match up. They got forgot who they got.

2:52.0

Well, I mean, the tournament's always enriched when Oral Bob is on the bracket line, in my opinion.

2:57.0

Well, I'm happy for you. You got at least one. So they get cheeky. They throw you with Loyola. They get like the USA.
