The title, you can see on the poster,

starts off West versus East,

which makes it sound a bit like a,

I don't know, a boxing competition or something,

West versus East. Will we get a winner tonight? I can't say. You'll have to decide for

yourself who's won this particular battle. But then we've got the subtitle. Is Thomas Aquinas

or Thomism? I noticed on the poster it's Tomism. It might be a slight difference. Is Thomas

compatible with orthodoxy? Is Tomism compatible with orthodoxy? I'll get to that in the end

because there is a distinction between the person and teaching of Thomas Aquinas and the later

philosophical theological systems that go by the name of Thomism.

So we'll try and answer this question.

Is Thomas' is tommism compatible with orthodoxy within an overarching East versus West framework,

theologically ecclesiologically speaking?

So many people, if you would ask them, is the theology of Thomas Aquinas

compatible with the theology of the Orthodox Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church? Most people,

I think, would probably say no. They wouldn't expect Thomas to have much to do with the Orthodox
