Summary

This week on Guys We Fucked, CORINNE FISHER (@PhilanthropyGal) and KRYSTYNA HUTCHINSON (@KrystynaHutch), advise a Fucker whose long-distance boyfriend seems more interested in golf than her, help out another Fucker who has a crush on his married bff, Corinne is thinking about love, and Krystyna is pissed about cellphones. Then the duo chats with romance novelist, LAUREN ACCARDO (@laurenaccardo)! Lauren tells us about how she was introduced to the romance genre, confesses to writing Hanson fan fiction as a child, and reminisces about horny AIM sessions as a teen. Lauren also gets real about the romance novel industry, including required happy endings, big emphasis on consent, and self-publishing. We also chat about how Lauren’s first OkCupid date became her husband, her experience majoring in musical theater, and how she learned to write explicit sex scenes!

Hey fuckers, what up it's Christina Hutchinson and Corinne Fisher.

0:03.6

You're about to listen to a clip from guys we fucked the anti-slut-chaming podcast.

0:08.7

We are interviewing a debut romance novelist Lauren Akarto this week, her book Wild Love.

0:16.3

Debuts hits the charts this week and we just dive into this whole world that we don't know

0:22.2

anything about. What is a romance novel? What are the rules of the world? How fucking explicit can

0:27.7

you get on these pages? What's going on? Are there LGBTQ romance novels? How do you get into

0:33.9

this world? Is it corny? Is it cool? Is it make it horny when you're writing? Such an interesting

0:39.5

conversation. And if you want to hear the whole thing, you're going to head over to luminarypodcast.com,

slash GWF, where you can get a subscription for as low as 299 a month when you sign up for the

annual plan. I am not one of those people who grew up picking romance novels off my mom's bookshelves

0:59.2

and reading them at a way too early age. I got a job as a marketing associate for a book publisher.

1:06.6

I had long worked in illustrated books and one day they were like, you're going to start

1:11.6

being a publicist for our romance line. I was like, I don't know anything about romance.

1:16.3

Wow. Without your consent. Without your consent. We're going to be our romance gal.

1:19.3

Exactly. I didn't know a lot about romance when I started and I had to start reading.

1:24.8

And I was surprised. I had sort of had all the preconceptions that a lot of people have about

1:30.4

romance and found that there's some incredible writing. So it just converted completely.

1:37.0

Conceptions, just corny hack. I don't really have any. My head beyond that. It's that it's a female

1:43.8

focused genre. So the idea is that because it's focused on love and it has a happily ever after

1:49.9

that it's cheesy or corny or because there's graphic descriptions of sex that it's trashy.

1:57.5

And we don't talk about most other media that way. We don't talk about movies with sex

2:02.4

and them as trashy. If it's there for entertainment value, then we don't tend to talk about it that way.
